** Establishment of a Dedicated Research & Innovation Learning Pathway from School Level

If India Wants World-Class Innovators, The Journey  Must Begin In School

SCHOOL-LEVEL RESEARCH & INNOVATION PATHWAY

“Innovation Should Begin When Curiosity Begins – Not After Graduation”

1. Creative Idea / Suggestion

India should establish a dedicated Research & Innovation Learning Pathway within the school education system, alongside normal school education.

Every child should receive fundamental education. At the same time, students who demonstrate curiosity, interest, creativity, practical ability, problem-solving skills and sustained performance should have the opportunity to enter a specialised Research & Innovation pathway.

This should be a separate learning pathway, not permanent separation of students. Students may enter, leave or re-enter the pathway according to their interest and performance.

2. Why Should Innovation Start at School Age?

Excellence in many fields requires early exposure and continuous practice.

  • Sports: School → District → State → National → International
  • Gymnastics: Training often begins during childhood.
  • Agriculture: Practical exposure can begin through school gardens and farming projects.
  • Music & Arts: Early practice develops skills progressively.
  • Science & Innovation: Observation, experimentation and problem-solving can similarly begin during school years.

Therefore, if India wants world-class scientists, researchers, inventors and entrepreneurs, innovation cannot be introduced only after college graduation.

3. Present Condition & Need for Change

The present education system is often heavily examination-oriented. Marks and certificates do not necessarily demonstrate a student's ability to communicate, solve practical problems, conduct research or create something new.

There are also concerns about:

  • Outdated or insufficiently updated portions of the curriculum in rapidly changing fields.
  • Limited practical and project-based learning.
  • Insufficient exposure to modern technology, AI, laboratories and industry.
  • A gap between academic qualifications and workplace skills.
  • Students progressing through education without adequately developing communication and practical capabilities.

The solution should not be to blame all teachers or students, but to modernise the learning system and create additional opportunities for practical excellence.

4. Proposed Five-Stage Model

Classes 1–5 – DISCOVER
Observation, nature, curiosity, simple experiments, drawing, design and basic problem-solving.

Classes 6–8 – EXPLORE
Science laboratories, agriculture, electronics, coding, AI awareness, robotics and mini-projects.

Classes 9–10 – INNOVATE
Research projects, prototypes, innovation competitions, mentors, patent awareness and industry visits.

Classes 11–12 – RESEARCH
Advanced laboratory work, scientific research, engineering, agriculture research, AI/data science and social innovation.

College – SPECIALISE
University research, industry collaboration, start-ups, research institutions and international opportunities.

5. Selection & Evaluation

Selection should not depend only on examination marks.

Assessment can include:

Interest + Curiosity + Creativity + Aptitude + Practical Skills + Problem Solving + Project Performance

Students who do not wish to continue, or whose performance does not justify continuation, can return to the normal education pathway. Students who later develop interest can re-enter.

Thus, no child should be permanently labelled as “not talented.”

6. Implementation

Every school can gradually establish a School Research & Innovation Centre (SRIC) with:

  • Basic laboratories and digital equipment
  • AI, coding, robotics and science facilities
  • Agriculture/garden projects
  • Expert and industry mentors
  • University and research-institution partnerships
  • Innovation competitions and exhibitions
  • Prototype development and patent guidance
  • Teacher training in project-based learning

7. Expected National Benefits

For Students: Discover hidden talents, develop confidence, practical skills and problem-solving ability.

For Schools & Teachers: Modern teaching methods, greater student engagement and access to expert resources.

For the Nation: More researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and technology-based employment; stronger industry–education links and greater global competitiveness.

Strong Conclusion

Every child need not become an innovator, but every child should be given an opportunity to discover whether he or she can become one.

India should therefore move beyond the question:

“How many marks did the student obtain?”

towards:

“What can the student create, solve, discover or improve?”

Invest in Children's Curiosity Today — Build India's Innovation Strength for Tomorrow.

Innovation Begins in School.

If you want, this same one-page summary can also be converted into a Ministry/PMO-style official proposal with Subject, Background, Proposal, Implementation, Economy/Employment Benefits and Strong Conclusion.

“Separate students” அல்ல — “Separate learning pathway”.

Normal School Education

Research & Innovation Track

Sports

School → District → State → National → International

Research & Innovation

School → School Lab → District Innovation → State → National → International

SportsSchool practiceDistrict → State → National
GymnasticsChildhood trainingState → National → International
AgricultureSchool garden/farmAdvanced agriculture → Research
MusicSchool trainingDistrict → State → National
MathematicsSchool problem solvingOlympiad → Research
ScienceSchool experimentsScience fair → Research
Coding/AISchool projectsState → National → Global
InnovationSchool problem identificationPrototype → Patent → Enterprise

“Innovation cannot be created suddenly after graduation; innovation culture must be cultivated from school age.”

  • Curiosity
  • “Why?”
  • practical skill
  • experiment செய்யும் ஆர்வம்
  • observation
  • creativity
  • teamwork
  • communication

Marks ≠ Innovation ability.

“Interested, Talented & Performing Students”

“The education system should move beyond examination-oriented learning towards competency, communication, practical learning, research and innovation.”

Innovation Track

LEVEL 1 — Classes 1–5

Discover

  • Observation
  • Nature
  • Simple experiments
  • Drawing/design
  • Basic agriculture
  • Simple machines
  • Questions and curiosity

LEVEL 2 — Classes 6–8

Explore

  • Science laboratory
  • Agriculture
  • Electronics
  • Coding
  • AI awareness
  • Robotics
  • Local problems
  • Mini projects

LEVEL 3 — Classes 9–10

Innovate

  • Research projects
  • Prototype
  • Innovation competitions
  • Mentorship
  • Patent awareness
  • Industry visits
  • University/laboratory interaction

LEVEL 4 — Classes 11–12

Research

  • Advanced laboratory
  • Scientific research
  • Engineering projects
  • Agriculture research
  • AI/data science
  • Social innovation
  • Entrepreneurship

LEVEL 5 — College

Specialisation

School innovation experience → University research → Industry/Startup/Research Institution.

Every School + Innovation Wing

School Research & Innovation Centre (SRIC)

Think → Question → Experiment → Fail → Improve → Prototype → Test → Present

Entry

Interest + Aptitude + Project performance

Annual Review

Performance + Creativity + Participation + Project progress

Exit

Normal Education Track

Re-entry

Innovation Track

“How many marks did the student get?”

“What can the student create, solve, discover or improve?”

Student → Learner → Problem Solver → Researcher → Innovator → Entrepreneur / Scientist

“If India wants world-class innovators, innovation education should not begin after graduation. It should begin when curiosity begins — at school age.”

“Every child need not become an innovator, but every child should be given an opportunity to discover whether he or she can become one.”
