** Proposal to Develop a Global Aircraft-Based Earth, Sky and Ocean Observation Network (GAESON) for
Improved Weather Intelligence,
Environmental Monitoring and
Public Safety
GAESON
Global
Aircraft-Based Earth, Sky and Ocean Observation Network
An
Innovative Proposal for Improved Weather Intelligence, Environmental
Monitoring, Ocean Observation and Public Safety
1. THE IDEA
Explore the feasibility of equipping suitable
commercial aircraft with additional approved cameras and specialised sensors to
collect useful information about the Earth, clouds, atmosphere and oceans
during normal flights.
Combine these observations with existing satellite
imagery, weather radar, ground-based measurements and Artificial Intelligence
(AI) analysis.
2. FOUR OBSERVATION AREAS
LAND: Forests,
rivers, agriculture, coastlines, flooding and visible environmental changes.
SKY: Cloud
formations, cloud coverage and visible atmospheric phenomena.
ATMOSPHERE:
Temperature, pressure, wind, humidity and turbulence using appropriate sensors.
SEAS AND OCEANS:
Visible marine conditions, potential pollution indicators, storms, coastal
hazards and selected ocean properties.
3. EXPECTED BENEFITS
·
Additional
information to support weather forecasting and atmospheric research.
·
Support for
cyclone, flood and certain environmental hazard monitoring.
·
Additional
observations for coastal and marine environmental research.
·
Improved
understanding of interactions between land, clouds, atmosphere and oceans.
·
Better use of
existing aircraft flight networks for scientific purposes.
·
Potential
benefits for governments, meteorological agencies, researchers, environmental
authorities and the public.
4. HOW IT WOULD WORK
OBSERVE → RECORD LOCATION AND TIME → TRANSMIT OR STORE → ANALYSE
WITH AI → INTEGRATE WITH EXISTING DATA → SHARE USEFUL INFORMATION
Each observation would include relevant location,
altitude, time and data-quality information. AI would help identify patterns,
while qualified experts and established scientific systems would assess the
results.
5. IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
Phase 1: Expert
feasibility study.
Phase 2: Limited
pilot project involving suitable aircraft and routes.
Phase 3:
Scientific comparison with existing satellite, radar and ground observations.
Phase 4:
Evaluation of benefits, accuracy, safety, costs and technical limitations.
Phase 5:
Expansion only if the results demonstrate measurable additional value.
6. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Aircraft-based weather observations and satellite
monitoring already exist. The proposal must therefore demonstrate what
additional benefits an integrated camera-and-sensor network would provide.
Aviation certification, installation costs, data transmission, privacy,
cybersecurity and scientific accuracy must be addressed.
7. REQUEST
Request government departments, aviation authorities,
meteorological agencies, oceanographic institutions and research organisations
to evaluate the concept and consider a scientifically controlled pilot project.
STRONG CONCLUSION
LET EVERY SUITABLE FLIGHT EXPLORE ITS POTENTIAL TO CONTRIBUTE TO
SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE.
By combining aircraft observations with existing
satellites, weather systems and AI, GAESON could help develop a complementary
source of information about our land, sky, atmosphere and oceans—supporting
better decisions, environmental protection and public welfare.
